AbstractThe Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation is a modified “heart-lung” machine to provide temporary cardiorespiratory support to the patients. It is an advanced form of organ support to the severe cardiovascular and respiratory failure patients. The majority of patients develop dysrhythmias, ECMO cannulation site bleeding and thrombocytopenia. ECMO is not a treatment and that does not correct the underlying pathological health issues. ECMO is a form of mechanical system, which can maintain oxygenation even without involvement of lungs and appears ideal for the patients with refractory hypoxemia.
