Congenital Lobar Emphysema: A Diagnostic Dilemma

Abstract

 Congenital lobar emphysema (CLE) is a rare entity which presents as acute respiratory distress during infancy. In CLE, there is inspiratory air entry into the affected lobe but collapse of the narrow bronchial lumen during expiration. There is hyperinflation of the lung lobe with compression of the normal lung parenchyma and contra lateral displacement of the mediastinum . We report a case of 3 day old baby with respiratory distress.
