Abstract The present study was under taken to analyze the qualitative analysis of the comparative study of eletrophoretic patterns of proteins in the parotoid gland secretion and its extract in terrestrial toad Bufo melanostictus (Schneider). The protein patterns indicated that the secretion has less number of protein bands compared to the gland extract. The patterns of protein bands were observed in the parotoid gland extraction of B. melanostictus through Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate and Poly Acrylamide Gel Eletrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) indicated a distinct of four protein bands and some additional bands with poor resolution and was compared with Urea SDS-PAGE. The protein bands indicated a distinct of six protein bands with some other additional bands in Urea SDS gels. In the parotoid gland secretion two protein bands in SDS-PAGE, where as four protein bands were observed in the parotoid gland secretion of B. melanostictus through Urea-SDS PAGE. The protein subunit patterns were identified by using standard marker protein and Rm values were calculated accordingly. The eletrophoretogram both the SDS-PAGE & Urea SDSPAGE patterns of parotoid gland secretion and its extract showed homology in protein bands with minor variations.
