AbstractGout is a chronic metabolic, inflammatory disease causing hyperuricemia with formation and deposition of monosodium urate crystals in joints, tissues and involving multiple systems. It has important anaesthetic and critical care implications. This review article aims to present an overview of gout and the effects of hyperuricemia along with its important peri-operative implications. The literature is sparse regarding its anaesthetic considerations.
