AbstractOperation theatres play an important role in medical students learning; it is a high pressure clinical setting and offers a unique learning environment at the workplace. Students directly observe the dynamic, stressful clinical settings which has a potential to impart indirect or soft skills to the young learners. Many studies have been done on operation rooms as a teaching environment and ‘theme based learning’. However, there is lack of standardisation among studies. This unique learning environment is also influenced by the work-place culture, among different specialities and different institutions. This article explores these various aspects of operating room learning and suggests ways to further improve them.
